The Department has started functioning in 1999-2000.It offers B. A Economics as the programme of
study. Currently there are three permanent faculty members and 68 students in the department.
Our Department has conducted a national seminar in 2014. We organise extension activities of
distributing LED bulb to poor rural households as part of energy conservation programme every
year. We conduct various seminars on personality development, sustainable development, career
development programmes, intellectual property rights, research methodology etc. throughout the
years.
Department of Economics signed two MoUs with famous organisations for the academic and
personal development of the students. We have academic collaboration with famous economist and
demographer Prof.Irudayarajan, Centre for Development Studies, Trivandrum and his organisation
The International Institute of Migration and Development (IIMAD). We have another collaboration
with Department of Physics, Marthoma College, Thiruvalla on the theme of energy conservation and
community development programme. Economics association of our college is ‘Cyrilian Economics
Association’ and as part of it we conduct different programmes like budget analysis, career guidance
programmes, book reading literary activities, cultural programmes like Onam and Christmas
celebrations at Department level, study tour etc.
In 2024, we have started Four Year Under Graduate Degree Programme (FYUGP) as part of the
National Education Policy (2020) undertaken by University of Kerala in 2024. Our department has
specialisation in Development Economics and has taken various Major and Minor courses, Multi-
Disciplinary Courses, Skill Enhancement Courses and internship programmes for students.
